Yearly Post. HAHA

Sun Mar 8, 2009, 4:23 PM
I figured it was time to update the old journal. A year plus between posts ought to keep the mystery alive=P

I bought a new Wacom Intuos III. I love my old Intuos I serial adapter version that I got from artist extraordinaire Micheal Phillippi, but this new one rocks my socks.

I have 14 more unposted L5R pieces, plus my current assignment is 5 pieces, one of which I finished today (whilst on vacation in Florida. mmmmmm) I'd love to post it but I only have the go-ahead for CE stuff that doesn't spoil anything. Nothing said about the set following CE.

So, enjoy, and many thanks to all of those that have Faved that I didn't get back to.

  • Mood: I Have To Pee
  • Listening to: August Burns Red
  • Reading: Just finished: Night Angel trilogy - Brent Weeks
  • Watching: Role Models
  • Eating: grapes
  • Drinking: Sweet Water 420 Extra Pale Ale and water

Your drawing style is very atmospheric! I love the tone and power you capture in each piece.

Keep up the good work!

So I went and chose some stuff for the deviation I wanted. Sent you a PM on the Spider boards. I know I'll be completely in love with her once she's done (and the want to buy prints of her goes without saying).

additional notes: Anything not working for you can be changed, but I want to emphasize the use of one hand for the scimitar. It's important RPG mechanics wise.

As far as hair and facial features go I'll leave it up to you, though I'd prefer a more Setsuko esque face to a Minoko esque one.

War Paint is optional, but cool!

Not quite sure if you'ld be interested, but I'm holding a contest. With cash prizes and everything. Check it out. [link]

Hey, just dropping you a note to let you know I recently posted the Warmachine commissions you did for me. So far they've gotten a very positive response.

Thanks Limb.

Well I'm 37 so I've been drawing for about 34 years. =)

All my color stuff is done in Photoshop, except for some parts of the Dragon Clan samuri in my gallery, which I did with Painter. I just use a couple different brushes and change opacity and flow as I work. I start with around 100% O and 80% F to do base color and then lower them as I highlight. I don't have an exact science going, I more just go with what feels good. The base drawing is always done in pencil and scanned in. I love to illustrate and have the real things sitting around, cluttering my desk.

that's awesome! and thanks for the info. I've been trying to figure out cging for a while now and this will really help, so thanks. :)

N/P

I have a friend who does pro work and just uses the default brush for everything, actually. I want to look into using different brushes but I really only use a couple in the Standard brushes and one or two in one of the Natural brushes. Obviously having a digital tablet makes all the difference in the world.

I also recommend using Dodge/Burn sparingly and only for certain effects. A lot of artists have a tendency to rely on them for highlighting and shading when starting but they are obvious and don't do what you really want them to do.
