Card art for the Talisman of Gaki-do for the Legend of the Five Rings set called Path of the Destroyer.
Lots of interesting background for this piece.
The card is a result of a tournament win by Chris Nicoll, Straw Dog teammate and scene kid extraordinare. (You can see his hair/bandana combo on my Crane dude here: [link])
Chris got to choose both the design of the Talisman (a "big badass obi" that looks like the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship belt, to be precise) and the character to receive it in the story. (He chose Kakita Hideshi, the brooding tainted Crane you can see elsewhere in my gallery).
So this assignment was perfect for me. We see Hideshi having killed some fool in a duel and now the Obi is unwrapping and raising the corpse back up as a Shadow Samurai.
I also let my 4 year old nephew, Korbin, paint the background sky. So he got credit down the in the signature as well
Pretty happy with this one and it was H377 trying to get a copy at GenCon when the set was released.
